Agentic AI
What is agentic AI?
Agentic AI is AI that carries out work by itself: it is given a goal, plans the steps, uses systems and tools and checks the result, rather than only answering a question.
Agentic AI is the umbrella term for AI that acts instead of only answering. Its building block is the AI agent: software that takes over a task, calls the right systems and keeps going until the work is done. How we build such agents and connect them to your systems is covered under having AI agents built.
The difference from generative AI lies in what happens after the answer. Generative AI writes a draft when you ask for one. Agentic AI reads an incoming request, looks up the customer, checks the data and prepares the next step. The process in which that happens is called an agentic workflow.
More autonomy calls for more structure. An agent that acts in your CRM or accounts is only as reliable as the data in them and the boundaries you give it. That is why agentic AI needs connected, reliable data with a single source of truth, clear permissions and a person on the decisions that carry risk (see human-in-the-loop).
