Business intelligence (BI)
What is business intelligence?
Business intelligence is collecting, combining and visualising company data in reports and dashboards, so you can steer on figures.
Classic BI shows what was designed in advance: a dashboard with revenue, margin or productivity. That works well for fixed questions, but every new question needs a new report. Which KPIs belong on such a dashboard, and why it often goes unused, is covered in our guide to KPI and management dashboards.
AI adds a layer: you ask a question in plain language and get an answer with figures, even if nobody ever built that report. The condition is that data from different systems is connected and reliable.
What that layer looks like is covered under the AI Operating System.
