Enterprise architecture
What is enterprise architecture?
Enterprise architecture is the coherent map of an organisation: which processes exist, which systems and data support them and how everything is connected.
An enterprise architect looks at the organisation as a whole: business processes, information, applications and technical infrastructure, and how they fit together. The aim is that new systems and changes fit into the whole instead of adding yet another island. Where AI belongs on that map, as a layer over your existing systems, is covered under the AI Operating System.
Well-known frameworks are TOGAF and ArchiMate. Large organisations often have a dedicated team for it. A mid-sized organisation usually does well with an up-to-date overview of its main processes, the systems that support them, which system is authoritative for which data (single source of truth) and how they are connected.
With AI, that map matters more. An AI agent works across systems and needs to know where the right data lives and what it may change. Without that overview, every AI application brings its own integrations and copies, and you end up with a new tangle of loose connections.
